Dear Fr. Ron, Happy Birthday! I remember M. Scott Peck reflecting on this gospel, and he made the same point you did concerning how “we must do the inner work”, the way he put it was, “you cannot share preparation.” Both of you provide great insights into what admittedly is a confusing parable. I like the idea you suggested of “giving something away” as an exercise, then at life’s end, giving ourselves back to God just goes with the flow of natural life. Thanks Ron for putting so much thought into these reflections.
I have never given away something every day but I have given away many things at different times. The more I let go the more freedom I feel in my life. I know I am not finished that will come when God calls me home. I reflect on letting go in my prayer life each day.
Thank you for this reflection and the reading from the Book of Wisdom.
