On The Margins – Luke: 12:49-53

fr_ron_and_kbvm_readingbw1

Listen to my weekly radio show, On the Margins. Jesus wants fire on earth, a real desire for faith. This image goes back to his own baptism. His real baptism was his death and resurrection. This fire is the reality that his suffering was going to bring new life. There will be division among people because suffering is not wanted or seen as a vehicle to faith . On The Margins – Luke: 12:32-48

fr_ron_and_kbvm_readingbw1Listen to my weekly radio show, On the Margins. The treasure that is ours is the person of Christ Jesus. The search becomes the treasure. We are all on the search for Christ through our depression, anxiety and addictions. The work is from the gift of the Holy Spirit. The search, the relationship of Christ Jesus comes through people’s suffering and pain. The healing comes from the Holy Spirit. Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time , August 11, 2013.

On The Margins – Luke: 12:13-21

fr_ron_and_kbvm_readingbw1Listen to my weekly radio show, On the Margins. We need to have enough room for God in our lives. We cannot focus only on ourselves or only on our own security. We are responsible for living a life of integrity no matter how much we own. Our security rests in God alone, no matter how much we want to stock pile our goods. How is it we are learning to rely on God today?  Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time , August 4, 2013.

On The Margins – Luke: 11:1-13

fr_ron_and_kbvm_readingbw1Listen to my weekly radio show, On the Margins. This gospel expresses our search for God and for meaning. We are to ask for our daily bread, our portion and place in life. So many people do not have their daily portion of bread, food or relationships. What does it mean for us to receive our daily portion, that which sustains us for the day? At the Eucharist, there is portion for all. Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, July 28, 2013.

On The Margins – Luke 10:38-42

fr_ron_and_kbvm_readingbw1

Listen to my weekly radio show, On the Margins. This text clearly connects prayer and service. Hospitality means being open to the stranger, receiving people as they are. We come to a greater reliance on God through our suffering. We bring people around a common altar, all relying on the power of God. Martha and Mary become models of hospitality. Prayer and service is the central model of the Church. Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time , July 21, 2013.

On The Margins – Luke 10:25-37

fr_ron_and_kbvm_readingbw1Listen to my weekly radio show, On the Margins. This gospel connects our prayer and service. This question, “Who is my neighbor?” is so important as we seek God for our own lives. We need to learn how to love so that we can love others. We cannot blame people for their poverty. We must learn how to respond to people from the love God has for us and our neighbor. Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, July 14, 2013.

On The Margins – Luke: 10:1-12, 17-20

fr_ron_and_kbvm_readingbw1Listen to my weekly radio show, On the Margins. The gospel seems far fetched. This gospel is to dig up the soil of our commitment. We are awakened to the Kingdom of God. If we truly follow, we will be given what we need. This is a stark reminder that we are being sent in order to be free to find God and the healing we need in life. We rely upon God’s Kingdom above all . Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time , July 7, 2013.

On The Margins – Luke: 9:51-62

fr_ron_and_kbvm_readingbw1Listen to my weekly radio show, On the Margins. Jesus has no place to rest. The journey continues. There is an urgency for us. There are no excuses, no looking back once we have found our place on Jesus’ journey. We are to look to the future, not even to worry about the past. When we find the person of Jesus, letting go of the past becomes easier than clinging to our addictions and uncertainty  . Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time , June 30, 2013.

On The Margins – Luke 9:18-24

fr_ron_and_kbvm_readingbw1Listen to my weekly radio show, On the Margins. Jesus said, “If you recognize me, then you will have to follow me to the cross”. This seems an odd invitation, suffering is envolved, letting go is part of faith. I worked with people with emotional disabilities when I was a novice. Dennis taught me that the cross was part of me, the cross was part of my identity.  Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time  , June 23, 2013.

On The Margins – Luke: 7:36-8:3

fr_ron_and_kbvm_readingbw1Listen to my weekly radio show, On the Margins. The woman comes to Jesus because she has heard that new things can happen with him. She came to understand that she needed forgiveness and comes to him with great love. She anoints his feet weeping her contrition. This story is the story of our place now at the Eucharist. All of our relationships will change as well when we come humble to Christ as we are in the world. We bring our sinfulness to Christ and new life happens in his presence.
