Blessing for the People of God

In remembrance of Blessed Basil Moreau
Sunday September 16, 2007
Downtown Chapel
Portland, Oregon

Sung response: Lord send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.

Loving God,
We are your family of faith.
We remember the founder of Holy Cross, Father Moreau.
He desired that our differences melt into acceptance,
So our isolation may give way to community.
Bless your people of the Downtown Chapel with hope
As we pass on our faith to every generation.

Sung response: Lord send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.

God of our ancestors,
We are grateful this day for the French heritage of Holy Cross.
Bless this community of faithful people,
To always believe in the strength of prayer,
So we may honor the many languages of the Gospel.
Send us your Spirit
And unite our many voices into common praise and love.

Sung response: Lord send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.

God of tenderness and compassion,
Turn toward our community drenched in suffering.
We live with mental illness,
We suffer from many forms of addictions,
We face the limits of our common poverty.
Bless us and heal us through the intercession of
Our Lady of Sorrows, the patroness of Holy Cross.

Sung response: Lord send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.

God of providence and joy,
Bless our community of the Downtown Chapel
As we extend our welcome
To lonely strangers,
To people seeking the essentials of life,
To the heartbroken and fearful,
To the travel weary and forgotten,
Give us a holy zeal for service and for love.
Strengthen our faith,
Unite us in the passion of Christ’s Holy Cross.

Sung response: Lord send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.

God of providence and source of peace,
Bless all members of the Congregation of Holy Cross,
Bless the entire staff and volunteers of the Downtown Chapel.
Send your love among them
To build a family of faith,
To welcome the stranger,
To celebrate the lives of all people-
Through the intercession of Mary, Our Lady of Sorrows,
Blessed Basil Moreau,
Blessed Brother Andre,
And all our ancestors, prophets, and saints,
Guide this faithful parish
+ In the name of the Father,
And of the Son,
And of the Holy Spirit

Amen
