On The Margins – Luke 7:11-17

fr_ron_and_kbvm_readingbw1Listen to my weekly radio show, On the Margins. The mother becomes an image of powerlessness. She is on her own. This image of powerlessness offers us a place where Jesus enters. Jesus himself will be the dead son some day, foreshadowing his own death. Mary the grieving mother. Jesus says, “Do not weep.” He knows something more is going to happen . Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time , June 9, 2013.

On The Margins – Body and Blood of Christ: Luke: 9:11b-17

fr_ron_and_kbvm_readingbw1Listen to my weekly radio show, On the Margins. We hear of Christ healing the  people. The food is also about healing, not only the loaves and fish, but his very presence. There is enough for everyone, there is food for healing and also to satisfy all hungers. There are even leftovers for us to share with other people. The Body and Blood of Christ gives us everything we need. Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ , June 2, 2013.

On The Margins – John 16:12-15

Listen to my weekly radio show, On the Margins. We celebrate the concept of the Trinity, the continuation of the Easter Mysteries. This feast goes beyond the notion of a triangle or clover. We entrust our lives to God who has first given us life. All truth is guided by God’s love for us. There is more to be revealed in the gift of the Holy Spirit. Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity , May 26, 2013.

On The Margins – Pentecost: John: 20:19-23

Listen to my weekly radio show, On the Margins. We come to the end of the great 50 days of Easter to celebrate the feast of Pentecost. This feast is an ancient treasure given us by God. The Holy Spirit will teach us what we need to know and invite us into healing and forgiveness. This is the birthday of the Church, a feast that nudges us out of the nest of our comfort and celebrations from these past months. We are called to bring the Light of Christ to the world! Pentecost , May 19, 2013.

On The Margins – The Ascension of the Lord: Luke 24: 46-53

Listen to my weekly radio show, On the Margins. We need to be open to the gift of the Spirit here on earth, living the Paschal Mystery. We have inherited the gift of God’s Spirit to live this mystery among one another. We look not to heaven but discover our place here to live out this love. Believing is getting our hands dirty in service to building relationships in Christ’s name. We need to look around to the burdens and needs of people so we may continue the life of Christ on earth. The Ascension of the Lord, May 12, 2013.

On The Margins – Fifth Sunday of Easter: John 14:23-29

Listen to my weekly radio show, On the Margins. We prepare for the feasts of Ascension and Pentecost in these next weeks. God’s love is not going to fade or wash away. Love is made visible by the Spirit’s breath. This gospel reminds us of the disciples locked behind doors, afraid and lonely. We cannot hear the gospel enough, not to be afraid. We follow this great light, our faith in Christ Jesus. Sixth Sunday of Easter, May 5, 2013.”

JB, Ron, Jeremy, Tom from Stories for the Journey: A Lenten Retreat

We gathered yesterday, Sunday April 28, 2013 for our second Easter storytelling session. Stories for the Journey: An Easter Celebration began with Jeremy Marks, “Keeping my head above water.”

Julie Booth ended our eight-part series telling her story, “That’s the way the cookie crumbles”. Here is JB’s story.

I am delighted that our stories are creating such a wonderful, beautiful response in our community, such an Easter blessing and gift. Thank you, Tom for initiating this idea in our parish community. I hope we can continue this storytelling search for hope in our community well beyond this Lenten/Easter series.

These two stories from April 28 are based on the gospel from the Fifth Sunday of Easter, John 13:31-33a, 34-35. The photo: JB, Ron, Jeremy and Tom taken during the Lenten session.

On The Margins – Fifth Sunday of Easter: John 13:31-33a, 34-35

Listen to my weekly radio show, On the Margins. Christ is the source of love. This gospel reminds us of the Last Supper, the embodiment of love. We celebrate our sacraments of commitment in the Easter Season. This is a new stirring of love in Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. We see this gospel made flesh in our commitments of love. Love of the resurrection does not fade. Fifth Sunday of Easter, April 28, 2013.”

On The Margins – Fourth Sunday of Easter John: 10-27-30

Listen to my weekly radio show, On the Margins. This great image of the shepherd is one that offers us consolation, being always part of God’s care. This image of the Good Shepherd offers us the intimate relationship with Christ Jesus. We need to be attune to the gift of the Holy Spirit in our lives, listening to the voice of God. Our worry and anxiety compete against the promise that God is near. There are competing voices in us that we are not worthy. Fourth Sunday of Easter, April 21, 2013.”
