Universal Prayers for Sunday August 31, 2014

Universal Prayers

Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time           August 31, 2014

Let us pray to lose our lives for the sake of Christ’s love for us:

God, help us build up the Church from our commitments of fidelity.

Give us purpose in our mission and joy in every detail of service.

We pray to the Lord.

Let us pray for those who cannot carry their burdens:

God, help us lift up those cast down by loneliness, doubt and failure.

Give us peace amid the crosses we bear for other people.

We pray to the Lord.

Let us pray not to put down our crosses of suffering:

God, help us realize that so often our suffering makes us stronger.

Give us faith when we want to give up on ourselves.

We pray to the Lord.

Let us pray when our shoulders cannot bear the world’s concerns:

God, help us bear the realities of life when fear engulfs us.

Help us in our commitments and give us peace in our fear.

We pray to the Lord.

Let us pray for those whose eyes are cast down from illness and disease:

God, lift up those who feel so alone in their fear.

Give us all the stamina to bear the weight of unexpected illness.

We pray to the Lord.

Let us pray for those who have given their lives in faith:

God, receive our beloved dead and help us to grieve our losses.

Give joy to our loved ones who now see you as you are.

We pray to the Lord.
